Fencing!

I am calling this summer our Try Everything Summer.

Because we saw Zootopia and like Shakira's song,

and because we are really trying everything.

Jonah has wanted to try fencing for year, and I finally sat

down to figure out where on earth he could learn.

Low and behold, there's a studio across from the SCERA.

Max wanted to do archery, but we missed the signups,

so he joined Jonah in fencing. They both enjoyed it,

but I think Jonah was really hooked.

The Den Chief

I didn't have any of my boys in Cub Scouts this year,

but I took Maxwell to Day Camp with me as a Den Chief.

He was a great buddy for one of our new Wolf Cubs,

and I loved having him there with me.

John's Big 40 - Part 2

Part 2 of John's was dinner and cake with the kids.

 He asked for meatloaf, sweet potato fries, broccoli, strawberries, and cake.

40 looks pretty good on this guy. :)

John's Big 40 - Part 1

I wanted to do something special to celebrate John's 40th,

Unfortunately, he doesn't like gifts and we already had 

a surprise party for him a few years ago.

He made an offhand comment about just wanting

a goodnight's sleep for his birthday, so I decided to surprise

him with a night away from the kids. 

First, we met some friends for dinner at 180 Street Tacos.
As we left, I told him about the surprise.

We went home to pack, said goodbye to the kids

(and Greg and Kristina who were holding down the fort),

and left for our good night's sleep. First, we drove up

to Squaw Peak and took in the beautiful valley.

Then, we went to Midway, where we stayed at the Zermatt Resort.

We had fun exploring the resort and relaxing in our room.

Of course, I kept thinking about how much the kids would 

love being there. Maybe one day we will take them back with us.
