This morning Bentley went to Joy School. I was the class helper, and MY "helpers," Maxwell, and Jonah came along. The topic this week is Obedience and Decisions and today we talked about making choices. All morning long, the children were given choices. They were able to choose what to do during free play time, what to eat at snack time, what shapes to put on their art project, and where to sit for story time. We talked about choices that can make us happy or sad. All three of my boys were really good. Jonah chose to play with an empty cupboard while Bentley and Maxwell chose to participate without getting too goofy. It was great!
When we got home I sent the two big boys downstairs to play while I made lunch. They obeyed! What a good choice (I thought). As I worked, I heard an occasional giggle from the basement, but because I was in a hurry, I didn't stop to investigate. That was a bad choice on my part. When Jonah and I came downstairs to get the boys for lunch, we found them in the bathroom. They were standing at the sink, which was full of water, the tap was still on, and water covered the bathroom floor. They were laughing and having a great time. They didn't seem to realize that they had made a bad choice. After they cleaned up the mess, they were sent to their rooms for a little while to think some more about choices.
