Where's Jonah?

The other night I couldn't find Jonah. I could hear him laughing, but he didn't seem to be anywhere. I checked Bentley and Maxwell's rooms - no Jonah. He wasn't in our bedroom, the living room, or the kitchen. I checked the bathroom several times, but couldn't see him. Finally, I looked behind the shower curtain, and there he was, sitting in the tub, playing with his bath toys. He thought it was sooo funny. I have no idea how he got in there without hurting himself.

Roughing It

Bentley and Maxwell have been sleeping on the floor of their rooms lately, instead of sleeping in their beds. Here's Bentley snuggled up with his Sponge Bob CD player.
And here's Maxwell. He wasn't actually asleep when I took this picture, although he should have been. :)

Maxwell the barbarian

Maxwell says he's a Power Ranger!

what he gets from me . . .

This is Bentley talking on the phone with his Aunt Mindy.

He's been playing computer games with his dad since the day he was born.
He's been watching me talk on the phone, and talking on it himself, for almost as long.

Bentley's Latest Thing

The current rule at our house is that Bentley can play computer games for one hour each day. Before he is able to play, he has to get dressed, put his pajamas away, and make his bed. To speed up the process, Bentley has stopped sleeping "in" his bed. He lays on top of his bed, with his baby quilt over him. Then, in the morning, he doesn't have to make his bed. :)

I hope he doesn't think about sleeping in his clothes so he doesn't have to take the time to get dressed each morning.

(Actually, a friend told me that her sister has her three kids sleep in their clothes because they're so difficult to get up and dressed in the morning. Really. She thought her sister was kidding until she was there at bedtime and the kids got dressed for school instead of putting on their pj's before they went to bed. I wonder if that would work for us on Sunday mornings?)

Brothers

Jonah is finally getting old enough to (sometimes) be part of the things his brothers do.
Here he is with Bentley and Maxwell, preparing to wave goodbye to his Daddy.

And here are the three boys together this morning. I love watching their friendships develop.

Snow!!!

Yesterday, it was sunny and beautiful here in Utah - I think the high was in the 70's!
Today, it snowed.

Bentley saw the snow start to fall, and prayed for more. He got enough for a snowball.

Lately the boys have played outside in shorts and t-shirts. It took a lot for me to convince Maxwell he'd need long pants and a coat.

Here are some of our poor tulips.

BYU Kid's Clinic

Saturday was the annual BYU Blue and White Scrimmage and we took the kids down for the Kids Clinic before the game. Bentley and Maxwell each participated in some drills, tackled big cushions, and ran wild on the football field.

Thanks to Uncle Spencer for inviting us and watching out for the boys!

Happy Easter!

The big boys take turns making weird faces. :)
Actually they're just showing off the eggs they found in our back yard.

When we left for church they looked so nice in their church clothes, but they gradually shed most of them - their vests in sacrament meeting, down to their shoes on the walk home from church. We had a beautiful Easter Sunday. Earlier this week, the boys and I were talking about Easter and Christ's resurrection. I mentioned Christmas and how that's when we celebrate the Savior's birth. Bentley said, "What did Jesus do on Halloween?"

Easter Eggs

We colored easter eggs on Saturday.
Bentley is showing off his favorite eggs.
Maxwell liked his read egg the best.

Daddy's distracted helpers

Bentley and Max helped their Dad mow the lawn today, kind of. Their job was to pick up sticks so they wouldn't get caught in the mower.
The boys worked hard for a little while, and then got distracted.

Bentley stopped to fight the evil hedges.

Maxwell, or Robin, was also busy fighting bad guys.

Poor Jonah was once again stuck in the house and missed all the fun.

Gross?

Today during Joy School, Bentley was wandering around the backyard, looking at our flowers. He shouted for me to come look at a tulip, and said, "Isn't this pretty, mom?" I said that it was, and asked him how it smelled. He smelled the flower, and said, "Gross?"
"Gross?" I asked.
"Is that how it's supposed to smell?" he said.
I told him that people usually think flowers smell nice. He sniffed again, and said that it did smell pretty, but he didn't look convinced. I think he's so funny.

Rocketeers

The joy we're talking about at Joy School this week is Imagination and Creativity. On Tuesday I got to dress up (I was a BYU basketball player), and today all of the children wore costumes.
We made up stories, had a picnic in the "jungle" (our backyard), did a creative art activity with shapes, acted out stories, made up new stories, and played in our "rocket."

Here's Maxwell peaking out the window of our rocket. He loves having Joy School at our house. He's not old enough to be in the group, but when I'm the teacher or the helper, he gets to participate. He has a great imagination, so I was glad to have his help today.
Jonah, on the other hand, isn't crazy about Joy School at our house. He gets overwhelmed by the eight hyperactive little bodies bouncing all over our living room, and spends most of the time being held, or crying to be held. He liked the rocket once the other kids left. (I ran out of spray paint, so the door still lookds like a carseat box.) :)
Max (in a batman cape) returns from his trip to the moon!
Bentley (or Robin, the Boy Wonder) prepares for his space ride. Bentley also has a great imagination. Today, we made up a story to tell what happened to the Three Bears while they were waiting for their pooridge to cool. Bentley suggested the first part - they met some bad guys in the woods - and the story evolved from there. It turns out that the three bears did some serious fighting in the woods before they returned home to find Goldilocks.

Buzz Lightyear - Another Bentley post

This is my Buzz Lightyear toy.
I like his Laser.
I like that he can push his red big button that puts his wings out.
In Toy Story 2 I like that he flies to Zurg's planet and runs through the spikes and jumps out throught the door, and jumps on something with one foot, then stands on one with two feet, and falls and puts a bubble around him, and goes up, and makes it disappear, and fights Zurg. He jumps over Zurg and then before Buzz can use his laser, Zurg blows the top of Buzz's body up and Buzz kneels down and then falls down.
I like in Toy Story 2 that Buzz finds another Buzz and that there are two Buzz's.

Zurg - a Bentley post

This is Zurg.
He is the bad guy who fights Buzz Lightyear.
I like his ion blaster.
I like that he dosn't have feet, but he can still move. I think that's funny.
I like that he fights Buzz in Toy Story 2.
He says, "Surrender Buzz Lightyear, I have won!"
Buzz says,"I'll never surrender. You killed my father!"
And then Zurg says, "No Buzz, I AM your father!"
Then Buzz says, "NOOOO."
I like when Zurg tries to shoot Zurg with his ion blaster, but Buzz dodges out of the way so Zurg can't hit him.
I like his cape.
I like the toy Zurg with his robot and he chases the alien.

Scary Hives

Last week Jonah broke out in hives. The doctors think it was an allergic reaction to amoxicillin, which he was on for an infection from the week before. He was fine for 8 days, and on the ninth, he broke out on his ears and the back of his neck. Before long, it had spread to his face.
His hands and feet were swollen, too. This is what his tummy looked like on Wednesday. On Thursday, his entire body was covered by the rash. We all felt so bad for him. He was miserable. I've heard of hives before, but I had no idea it could be like this. By Saturday he was much better, and now he's back to our sweet, happy Jonah.

Robin has arrived!

Yesterday, while his brothers were napping, Bentley decided he wanted a "Robin cape." We talked about ways of turning one of his other capes into a Robin cape, but none of those ideas seemed right. After doing a google image search, we learned that Robin has a yellow cape. We went through my fabric stash, but I didn't have enough yellow fabric. After naptime we had some errands to run, so we stopped at a fabric store and bought some yellow fabric. I thought it would be so easy to use one of their other capes as a pattern and promised the capes would be ready by morning. Oops.
It was a little more difficult than I'd imagined, but by 11:00 last night the capes were finished (not pretty, but finished) and waiting for the boys to wear them this morning.
Well, two of the boys. I've got plans to make one for Jonah, but his isn't ready yet.

starting young

Yesterday while I was checking my email, Jonah was playing with the computer. He kept ejecting disc drive, so I took away the cd that was in it (Warcraft), put it back in the case, and set it on the desk next to the moniter. Jonah stood up and grabbed the case, but I didn't pay much attention to him.

When I looked down the next time, he had gotten the cd out of the case, put it into the disc drive, and was closing it. I'm going to have to keep an eye on him, too!
