A week or two before Hope of America, I got an email
from Jonah's teacher. She thanked me (and the other mothers
in the email) for agreeing to chaperone Hope of America.
This was a pretty big surprise to me, it sounds like something
I would sign up to do, but I can't remember doing it.
Fortunately, John was able to watch Alton, and I got to
not only watch the performance, but attend the rehearsal
and sit next to my Jonah during the show.
We ended up on the front row, which was awkward for me,
but it was really cool to experience this with him.
The day of Hope of America, May 5, I went to the school
to attend the rehearsal at BYU. The district didn't have a bus
driver assigned to our field trip - something we didn't find out
until well after we should have left for the school.
While we waited (and waited) I shared a photo of Jonah
and me and mentioned Hope of America. My cousin, Nate,
happened to see the post and said he'd be there with his daughter.
We exchanged phone numbers, but my hopes of actually finding
each other in the chaos that is Hope of America were dim.
I was so surprised to hear someone call my name as we walked
through the parking lot and to find out it was Nate!
We walked to the Marriott Center with Nate, Penny, and their daughter.
I love family and getting to see them!
This was definitely a good night.
