Back to Business

Milo lost his first tooth - with some help from
his Super Teacher, Mrs. S.
Bentley attended his first caucus meeting.
He was assigned to go for his history class.
Someone even wrote him in for every vote!

Hawsington DC - Last Stops and Homeward Bound

Monday morning brought classes for Mike and Jenny,
and one last chance to see the sights for Mindy, Becky, and me.
We walked from Mike and Jenny's apartment to the Pentagon,
where we walked through the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial.

We took the Metro from the Pentagon into DC,
and walked over to the Smithsonian Museum of American History.
We'd have loved to visit all of the museums,
but with two History Majors in the group the American History
museum won out. The line to get it was very, very long,
but we eventually made it inside. I liked the Star Spangled Banner
exhibit, and the First Ladies dresses. I was a little disappointed in the
rest of the museum - it was more pop cultural focused than I expected -
but it was still interesting. We grabbed some souvenirs at the gift shop,
and Becky snagged a sweatshirt from a street stand.

Then, we walked over to a bakery, bought lunch,
and found a place to eat before catching the Metro
back to Mikey and Jenny's place.

Mikey and Jenny dropped us off at the airport on their way back
to class, and we began our journey back home.

Warren and his kids met us at the airport and took Becky
home with them. Ruby and Milo had made posters
welcoming Mindy and me back home. The kids were
asleep when we arrived, but we were glad to be home!

Hawsington DC - Arlington National Cemetery

Sunday started super early!
Mikey and Jenny's Ward meets at 8 am, which is 6 am our time.
We'd recently gone on Daylight Savings Time, so that was
like church at 5 am for Mindy, Becky, and me.
We stayed awake, barely, and then came home for a
yummy lunch (cream biscuits and fried eggs) and naps.
Once we were rested, Mikey drove Mindy, Becky, and I
to Arlington National Cemetery. It was beautiful, somber,
and very, very cold. It snowed a little while we were there!
We saw the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,
and strolled (shivering) through most of the cemetery.
After leaving the cemetery, we walked over to the
Marine Corps War Memorial, and back to Arlington.
I found another stone wall that I loved.
We once again navigated the Metro,
and made it safely back to Mikey and Jenny's apartment.

Hawsington DC - Temple Trip

After a yummy lunch of our Kabob Palace leftovers,
we crowded into Hawsmo and drove to the Washington, D.C. Temple.
There was some concern about falling asleep during a session,
so we did initiatories, instead.
It was a little rainy, but that didn't stop us from taking pictures.
We even got Mike in pictures (outside of the car) as
we left the Visitor's Center. Warren's friend recommended
a Mexican Restaurant called Uncle Julio's, and we went there for dinner.
Becky got the sampler, so she was able to report back to
Warren about all the food, and Mindy and I took one for
the team and tried the flan for our little brother. :)

Hawsington DC - Mount Vernon

Our plan for Saturday morning was to visit Mount Vernon.
Becky bought tickets online for all of us, but as we were getting
ready to leave for our excursion, Mikey got a bloody nose.
He bled and bled and bled, and after about 15 minutes,
told us to go ahead without him. We left, a little worried that
he would bleed out by himself, and took a round-about
trip to Mount Vernon (thanks GPS - at least it wasn't trying to
kill us like Spencer and Brianna's GPS).
Mikey's bloody nose eventually let up, but he missed a great morning.
I really liked Mount Vernon. It was beautiful - the house,
the grounds, and the view. We weren't allowed to take photos
in the house, but I took pictures everywhere else. :)

I loved this brick wall.
