4th Grade Pioneer Day

Now that school is out for the summer,

I am going to try to catch my blog up

on the busy last month of school. :)

Back on April 24th, Jonah's 4th grade class

had a pioneer handcart trek at the park next to the school.

Here's our guy, all ready for Trek.

This was his "family" on the Trek.

They pulled a wagon (or rode in it), to the different stations.

I got to tag along as the Mom.

First up - Pony Express Relays.

How did the Pony Express riders keep their hats on?

Our boys lost their's as they raced.

The next station was Pioneer dancing.

That was okay till the boys had to hold hands

with the girls. Jonah was not excited about that. Or was he?

We followed up the dancing with some food.

The kids got to sample some dutch oven potatoes

and a few different desserts.

got to try their hands at candle making.

The potato sacks at our next station had

seen better days, but that didn't stop the kids

from having a great time racing.

They also got to try a three-legged race.
It was pretty fun to watch them try to
figure out how to work together. I remember
doing that for fun on the way home from
elementary school a few times. I don't
remember face planting, but the boys managed to
do that a few times each.

At the last station the kids added a drawstring
to marble bags, and then got to try out their marbles.

To finish off their pioneer experience,

the kids ate homemade* bread and butter

back in the classroom. It was a fun trek.

I'm so glad I got to go with Jonah.

*I bought my "homemade" bread

at a bakery that morning - and I wasn't

the only Mom there for that purpose. :)

Random

Max and Ruby make good use of their

time on the drive from dance to baseball.

Milo likes to watch movies and play video

games at the orthodontist.

Alton likes to run up and down the hall.

Bentley's team looked great at their second game.

Go Sox!

Ruby paints her volcano at school.

Her older brothers each have one from

their second grade science unit.

Milo and J walk home together.

I helped at Harmon's Days with the PTA.

We made banana dolphins with the kids.

Another in-transit reader.

This time on the way home from

the orientation meeting for his new school.

He is going to the ALL program next year.

Cassidy Came Home!

Our friend and neighbor, Cassidy, has been

in Primary Children's for the past few months.

She finally got to come home, and some

women in the ward organized a welcome home

for her. Ward members came with balloons and 

posters to greet her. We are so happy and grateful

that she is home, and continue to pray that she

will get stronger and healthier.

Hornet Fans

We had about a month of overlap for soccer and baseball.

We get to be Red Sox AND Hornet fans. :)

There was actually a soccer game with good weather.

Weird, right?

Alton had the best seat. :)

Jonah played well. I'm not a big soccer fan,

but I enjoy watching Jonah play.

Red Sox Fans

Bentley is in the Pony league this year,

and he was drafted by the Red Sox.

Their first game was rained out, but they

were able to play their second game (it was cold).

The team had only had one practice,

so they looked a little rusty, but they are

practicing every chance they get. 

I think it is going to be a great season.

Random

Alton and Elmo are tucked in and ready

for a pretend nap. Maxwell was persuaded

to join in while he waited for his car pool.

Alton shared his snack with Elmo.

John got a new computer!

He has been looking for a while, 

and needed an upgrade for something at work.

Alton and Milo get well-checks together

because their birthdays are only 4 days apart.

They both fit into the little cubby in the exam room.

Alton and G watch the drive-through

while their mothers visit.

Alton loves to sit and help his Dad.

Bentley hates practicing the piano these days,
but I love to hear him play.

Milo's Bug Party

Last year we were in California for Milo's

birthday and although we planned to have a friend

party for him, it never happened.

(He ended up going to dinner with the whole

family and getting a new video game instead.)

This year, I was determined to have a party for him.

And we did!

He looked through a party book and picked out

a bingo game and dirt and worms refreshments.

So we went with a Bug theme.

It was our first bug party, and it was really fun!

(Fun to plan and to celebrate! I was relieved because

I had NOT been looking forward to the planning.)

We went shopping for a few last things

on Milo's J-play-day. Here are the boys

modeling some cool Viking hats.

Here are the party favors - a bug book,

magnifying glass, cricket clicker,

grow bugs, and a colorful bug.

The party was on one of Milo's two

D-play days, and D gave him a new shirt.

Now they have matching Batman and matching

Mario shirts. These two boys are such cute friends.

Bingo cards, spider cake, and dirt and worm cups.

It was difficult to get a picture of all of them,

but here are the party attendees. 

The kids played Pin the Spider in the Web,

a bug version of Clean Your Room (named 

Clean Your Web by Ruby), and Bug BINGO.

After Milo opened his presents and they had dessert,

the boys were really excited to go outside to play.

Alton woke up from his nap and ate gummy worms. :)

One of Milo's favorite gifts was a rock egg

with a dinosaur in it. He got to play

archaeologist and chipped his way to the dinosaur

in the middle of the egg.

Milo's birthday lasted 9 days this year.

I think he was pretty happy about that.
